Lent is a very special time for me and many people in my church. It is a time when we try to get closer to God before Easter comes. I think that using prayers for lent is the best way to keep your heart soft and ready for the good news of Jesus. Sometimes I forget to pray, but having a list helps me stay on track every day.
Using These Prayers for Lent Every Day
When I first started doing Lent, I didn’t know what to say. I would just sit there and feel a bit awkward. But my aunt told me that God doesn’t care if my words are fancy. He just wants to hear my voice. So, I wrote these down to help anyone who feels like me. You can read them in the morning or before you go to sleep.
1. A Prayer for a Clean Heart
Bible Verse: Psalm 51:10 — “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
How to pray: Find a quiet spot where nobody is gonna bother you. Close your eyes and think about the things that make your heart feel heavy or dirty. Maybe you were mean to a friend or you told a lie. Tell God you want to start over and ask Him to wash those bad feelings away like water washes dirt off your hands.
The Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I am coming to You today because I know my heart is not always clean. I have thought bad things and I have done things that I know are wrong. Please wash my heart and make it pure again. I want to have a spirit that follows You every single day without turning away. Thank You for loving me even when I mess up. I love You, Lord. Amen.
2. Asking for Patience
Bible Verse: Romans 12:12 — “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
How to pray: Being patient is really hard, especially when we want things to happen right now. Think about something you are waiting for. Is it a new job? Is it for a sick friend to get better? Ask God to help your heart be still while you wait for His timing.
The Prayer: Lord, You know that I am not a very patient person. I like to have things my way and I like them to happen fast. But I know Your timing is better than mine. Please help me to be patient when life is hard and when I am waiting for answers. Help me to stay faithful in talking to You every day and to keep my hope in You. Amen.
3. Help with Fasting
Bible Verse: Matthew 6:16 — “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting.”
How to pray: If you are giving up something for Lent, like chocolate or social media, it can be tough. When you feel like you really want that thing, use that moment to talk to God instead. Tell Him that He is more important than food or games.
The Prayer: Dear God, I am trying to give this thing up to show You that I love You more than anything else. It is actually harder than I thought it would be! When I feel hungry or when I want to use my phone, please remind me to think of You instead. Give me the strength to finish what I started and help me to have a happy face while I do it. Amen.
Simple Prayers for Lent for Your Family
4. For My Parents
Bible Verse: Exodus 20:12 — “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”
How to pray: Think about your mom and dad or the people who took care of you. They do a lot of work that we don’t always see. Ask God to give them rest and to show them that they are doing a good job. Even if you don’t always get along, praying for them helps your own heart feel better.
The Prayer: Father in Heaven, thank You so much for my parents. They have done so much for me over the years and I don’t always say thank you like I should. Please bless them today. Give them strength for their work and let them feel Your peace in their hearts. Help me to be a better son or daughter and to show them respect and love every day. Amen.
5. For My Children or Siblings
Bible Verse: 3 John 1:4 — “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”
How to pray: If you have kids or brothers and sisters, pray for their path in life. The world can be a scary place for young people. Ask God to put good friends in their lives and to help them make choices that make God happy.
The Prayer: Lord Jesus, I lift up my family members to You today. I worry about them sometimes because I want them to be safe and happy. Please guide their feet so they stay on the right path. Help them to know how much You love them and help them to love others too. Keep them safe from bad things and help us to be kind to each other at home. Amen.
6. For Peace in the Home
Bible Verse: Colossians 3:15 — “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”
How to pray: Sometimes houses can be loud and full of fighting. Maybe people are stressed about money or school. Take a deep breath and ask God to let His peace come into your living room and kitchen. Imagine all the anger leaving and being replaced by kindness.
The Prayer: Dear God, sometimes there is too much arguing in my house and it makes me feel sad. I ask that You would bring Your peace into our home right now. Help us to stop being mean to each other and to start listening more. I want our home to be a place where people feel safe and loved. Thank You for being the King of Peace in our lives. Amen.
Finding Strength Through Prayers for Lent
7. When I Feel Weak
Bible Verse: 2 Corinthians 12:9 — “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.'”
How to pray: It is okay to not be okay. Sometimes we try to act like we are strong, but we are actually very tired. Tell God exactly how you feel. If you feel like you can’t go on, tell Him. He is the one who gives us power when we have none left in ourselves.
The Prayer: Oh Lord, I am so tired today. I feel like I have no strength left to do the things I need to do. But Your Word says that Your power is perfect when I am weak. So, I am leaning on You today. Please carry me through this day and give me the energy I need. I can’t do it alone, but I know I can do it with You. Amen.
8. Overcoming Temptation
Bible Verse: 1 Corinthians 10:13 — “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.”
How to pray: We all have things that tempt us to do wrong. Maybe it is getting angry or eating too much or being lazy. When you feel that “pull” to do something bad, stop and pray immediately. Ask God to show you the “way out” that He promised in the Bible.
The Prayer: Dear God, I am feeling really tempted right now to do something I shouldn’t. It feels very strong and I am scared I might give in. Please help me remember that You are stronger than any temptation. Show me the way to walk away from this and give me the courage to choose what is right. I want to honor You with my choices today. Amen.
9. For Guidance in Decisions
Bible Verse: Proverbs 3:5-6 — “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
How to pray: Are you trying to decide something big? Maybe a new house or a new school? Don’t just guess what to do. Ask the Holy Spirit to point you in the right direction. Be ready to listen and wait for His peace before you move forward.
The Prayer: Father, I have a big choice to make and I don’t know what the right answer is. My own brain thinks one thing, but I want to know what You think. I trust You with my whole heart. Please make the path clear for me so I don’t get lost. I give this decision to You and I will wait for Your lead. Thank You for guiding me. Amen.
Thinking About Others During Lent
10. For My Enemies
Bible Verse: Matthew 5:44 — “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”
How to pray: This is one of the hardest prayers for lent to do. Think about someone who was mean to you or someone you just don’t like. Ask God to bless them. It sounds weird, but it helps take the bitterness out of your heart. You don’t have to be their best friend, but you can wish them well.
The Prayer: Lord, I really don’t want to pray for this person because they hurt my feelings and they were very unfair to me. But You told us to love our enemies. So, I ask that You would bless them. Help them to see Your love and change their heart. And please help me to let go of the anger I am holding onto. I want to be free from this hurt. Amen.
11. For the Homeless and Poor
Bible Verse: Proverbs 19:17 — “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.”
How to pray: When you see someone on the street or someone who doesn’t have enough food, pray for them. Ask God to provide for their needs and to keep them warm. Think about how you can help them, too, maybe by giving a little money or some food.
The Prayer: Dear God, my heart breaks for people who don’t have a warm bed to sleep in tonight. Please protect them from the cold and the rain. I ask that You would provide food for their stomachs and hope for their souls. Show me how I can be a help to them and not just look away. Thank You for everything I have, and help me to be generous. Amen.
12. For People Who Are Sick
Bible Verse: James 5:14 — “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.”
How to pray: Think of someone you know who is in the hospital or just feeling bad at home. Imagine God’s healing hand touching them. Pray for the doctors too, so they know the right medicine to give. Believe that God is the Great Physician who can make people well.
The Prayer: Lord Jesus, I bring my friend who is sick to You right now. You know exactly what is wrong with their body and You know how to fix it. Please take away the pain and help them to get strong again. Give the doctors wisdom to know what to do. I trust in Your power to heal and I ask for Your comfort to be with them. Amen.
Praying for the World and My Community
13. For the Leaders of My Country
Bible Verse: 1 Timothy 2:1-2 — “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority…”
How to pray: Sometimes we complain about the government a lot. But the Bible says we should pray for them. Pray that they make good laws and that they care about the people. Ask God to give them wisdom even if they don’t know Him yet.
The Prayer: Heavenly Father, I pray for the leaders of our country and the leaders of the whole world. It is a very big job and they have to make hard choices. Please give them wisdom to do what is right and fair. Help them to seek peace instead of war. I pray that our land would be a place where people can live in safety and quietness because of good leaders. Amen.
14. For the Environment
Bible Verse: Genesis 2:15 — “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.”
How to pray: God gave us a beautiful world with trees and oceans and animals. Sometimes we don’t take very good care of it. Ask God to help us be better at looking after the earth. Pray for the places that are getting ruined and for the animals that are losing their homes.
The Prayer: Lord, thank You for the beautiful world You made. I love seeing the trees and the mountains and the blue sky. I am sorry that we haven’t always taken good care of Your creation. Help me and everyone else to be better at keeping the earth clean and healthy. We want to protect what You have given us so that our children can enjoy it too. Amen.
15. For My Local Church
Bible Verse: Hebrews 10:24-25 — “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together…
How to pray: Your church is like your spiritual family. Pray for your pastor and the people who teach the kids. Ask God to help the people in the church to love each other more and to reach out to the neighborhood. Pray that the church would be a light in the dark.
The Prayer: Dear God, I love my church and the people there. Please bless our pastor today and give him the words to say when he preaches. Help us to be a family that truly cares for one another. If someone is lonely or sad, help us to see it and to help them. May our church be a place where everyone feels welcome and learns about Jesus. Amen.
Daily Heart Checks During Lent
16. Letting Go of Anger
Bible Verse: Ephesians 4:26 — “In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.”
How to pray: If you are mad at someone, it’s like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to get sick. It only hurts you. Ask God to help you let the anger go before the day ends. It doesn’t mean what they did was okay, it just means you are giving it to God.
The Prayer: Lord, I am so angry right now and I can feel it in my chest. I don’t want to be this way, but it is hard to stop. Please help me to forgive the person who made me mad. I don’t want to carry this heavy feeling into tomorrow. I give my anger to You and I ask for Your peace to fill up the space where the anger was. Amen.
17. Learning to Listen to God
Bible Verse: 1 Samuel 3:10 — “The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ Then Samuel said, ‘Speak, for your servant is listening.'”
How to pray: Prayer isn’t just us talking; it is also us listening. Sit in silence for five minutes. Don’t say anything. Just wait and see if a thought or a verse comes to your mind. Tell God that You are ready to hear whatever He wants to tell you.
The Prayer: Heavenly Father, I am always the one doing the talking. Today, I want to be quiet and listen to You. Please speak to my heart and show me what You want me to know. I am Your servant and I want to follow Your voice. Help me to hear You above all the noise of the world. I am listening now, Lord. Amen.
18. For a Spirit of Gratitude
Bible Verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 — “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
How to pray: Even when life is hard, there is always something to be thankful for. Maybe it’s a cup of coffee or a warm blanket. Name five things right now that are good in your life. Tell God thank You for each one. This changes how you see your whole day.
The Prayer: Dear God, I want to say thank You. Sometimes I complain too much about what I don’t have, and I forget all the good things You have given me. Thank You for my breath, for my food, and for the people who love me. Even when things are tough, I know You are good. Help me to stay thankful all day long and not just for a minute. Amen.
Prayers for Lent and Personal Growth
19. Building Stronger Faith
Bible Verse: Hebrews 11:1 — “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
How to pray: Sometimes it’s hard to believe in God because we can’t see Him with our eyes. Ask God to make your faith stronger. Like a muscle, faith needs to be used to get big. Ask Him to help you trust Him even when you don’t understand what is happening.
The Prayer: Lord, I believe in You, but sometimes my faith feels very small. I want to trust You more than I do right now. Please help my faith to grow. When I am scared or when I have doubts, remind me of all the times You have helped me before. I want to have the kind of faith that can move mountains and stays steady in the storm. Amen.
20. Finding My Purpose
Bible Verse: Jeremiah 29:11 — “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
How to pray: Do you ever feel like you are just drifting? Like you don’t know why you are here? This is a great thing to include in your prayers for lent. Ask God to show you the “good works” He planned for you a long time ago. He made you for a reason, and He wants to show you what it is.
The Prayer: Father God, thank You for making me. I know I am not an accident. Please show me what You want me to do with my life. I want to use my talents to help people and to show them Your love. If I am going the wrong way, please turn me around. Give me a heart that wants to do Your will and not just my own. Amen.
21. For Courage to Speak the Truth
Bible Verse: Joshua 1:9 — “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
How to pray: Sometimes it is scary to tell people we follow Jesus. Or maybe it is hard to stand up for someone who is being bullied. Ask God to give you a “lion heart.” Ask for the right words to say so that you are kind but also very brave.
The Prayer: Dear Lord, I am often a coward. I stay quiet when I should speak up because I am worried about what people will think of me. Please give me Your courage. Help me to stand up for what is right and to talk about Your love without being ashamed. I know You are with me, so I don’t have to be afraid of anyone. Amen.
More Deep Prayers for Lent
22. For Grieving Hearts
Bible Verse: Matthew 5:4 — “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
How to pray: If you have lost someone you love, Lent can be a sad time because it reminds us of Jesus dying. But remember that He rose again! Tell God about your sadness. He is not afraid of your tears. Ask Him to wrap His arms around you like a big hug.
The Prayer: Oh God, my heart hurts so much because I miss my loved one. It feels like there is a big hole in my life that won’t ever be filled. Please come and sit with me in my sadness. I know You are the God of all comfort. Help me to remember the good times and to have hope that I will see them again in Heaven. Amen.
23. For Those Who Feel Alone
Bible Verse: Psalm 27:10 — “Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.”
How to pray: Even when we are around people, we can feel lonely. Tell God that You need a friend today. He promised never to leave us or forsake us. Try to feel His presence right there in the room with you. He is the friend who sticks closer than a brother.
The Prayer: Lord Jesus, I feel very alone today. It feels like nobody really understands me or cares what I am going through. But I know that You are always with me. Please let me feel Your presence in a real way. Help me to find good friends who love You, but most of all, help me to be satisfied with Your friendship. Thank You for never leaving. Amen.
24. For Joy in the Journey
Bible Verse: Nehemiah 8:10 — “Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
How to pray: Lent is a serious time, but it doesn’t have to be a miserable time. We can still have joy because we know the end of the story! Ask God to give you a joy that doesn’t depend on your circumstances. A joy that comes from deep inside because you belong to Him.
The Prayer: Dear God, sometimes I am so focused on my problems that I forget to be happy. I want to have Your joy in my heart today. Help me to smile and to see the beauty in small things. Your joy is what gives me the strength to keep going when things are hard. Thank You for the gift of laughter and for the happiness found in You. Amen.
25. For Teachers and Students
Bible Verse: Proverbs 2:6 — “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”
How to pray: School can be very stressful. Pray for the teachers who have to manage many kids and for the students who are struggling to learn. Ask God to help their brains work well and for the classrooms to be places of respect and hard work.
The Prayer: Father, I pray for all the schools in my town. Please help the teachers to have a lot of patience and to love their students. Help the kids who are struggling with their lessons to understand and not give up. I ask that schools would be safe places where everyone can learn and grow. Give the students wisdom and a desire to do their best. Amen.
26. For Better Health Habits
Bible Verse: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 — “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit… Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
How to pray: God gave us our bodies to take care of. During Lent, we often think about what we eat or how we live. Ask God to help you make choices that make your body healthy. Not because you want to look a certain way, but because you want to have energy to serve Him.
The Prayer: Lord, I am sorry for the times I have not taken good care of this body You gave me. I eat too much junk and I don’t move enough. During this Lent season, please help me to make better choices. Give me the self-control to eat what is good and to get the rest I need. I want to be healthy so I can do the work You have for me. Amen.
27. For Courage in Faith
Bible Verse: Romans 1:16 — “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes…”
How to pray: Sometimes we are shy about our faith. Ask God to give you a bold spirit. Think about people in other countries who get in trouble for being Christians. Pray for them and ask God to give you just a little bit of their bravery to share His love with your neighbors.
The Prayer: Dear God, please forgive me for the times I have been ashamed to say I follow Jesus. I want to be bold and tell people how much You have done for me. Help me to share the Good News with my friends and family in a way that is kind and true. Thank You for the power of the Gospel that changed my life. I want to live for You. Amen.
28. For a Quiet Mind
Bible Verse: Isaiah 26:3 — “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”
How to pray: Our brains are often full of “noise”—worries about tomorrow, regrets about yesterday. Ask God to “shush” the noise. Imagine your mind like a lake that is very still. Focus your thoughts only on how good God is and how much He cares for you right now.
The Prayer: Lord, my mind is spinning today with so many thoughts and worries. I can’t seem to make it stop. Please help me to focus my mind on You instead. I trust You with all my problems. I ask for Your perfect peace to guard my thoughts. Help me to rest in the knowledge that You have everything under control and I don’t have to worry. Amen.
29. For True Repentance
Bible Verse: Joel 2:13 — “Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate…”
How to pray: Repentance means turning around and going the other way. It’s not just saying “sorry.” Ask God to show you where you need to make a big change. Maybe you need to stop a bad habit for good. Ask for His help to actually change, not just feel bad for a minute.
The Prayer: Father, I don’t want to just act like I am sorry. I want my heart to truly change. Please show me the things in my life that are keeping me away from You. Give me the strength to turn away from those sins and to run toward You. Thank You for being so gracious and for always being ready to take me back when I return. Amen.
30. For a Spirit of Service
Bible Verse: Mark 10:45 — “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
How to pray: Jesus was the King of the universe but He washed people’s feet. Ask God to give you a “servant’s heart.” Look for one small thing you can do for someone else today without them even knowing it was you. This is a very powerful way to use prayers for lent.
The Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for being the perfect example of a servant. I am often very selfish and I want everyone to do things for me. Please change my heart. Show me how I can serve the people around me today. Help me to be helpful at home and at work. I want to love others the way You loved us, by putting them first. Amen.
31. Overcoming Anxiety
Bible Verse: Philippians 4:6-7 — “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
How to pray: Anxiety feels like a tight knot in your stomach. When you feel it, start naming the things that are making you scared. Tell God about each one, one by one. Then, imagine giving those things to Him like you are handing Him a heavy bag. Let Him carry it for you.
The Prayer: Dear God, I am feeling so anxious right now. My heart is beating fast and I am worried about what might happen. I am bringing all these requests to You because I know You care. Please take this heavy burden from me and give me Your peace that passes all understanding. I choose to trust You instead of being afraid. Thank You for hearing me. Amen.
32. For Those in Prison
Bible Verse: Hebrews 13:3 — “Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.”
How to pray: People in prison are often forgotten. Some did bad things, but God still loves them. Pray that they would find Jesus while they are there. Pray for their families who are missing them. Ask God to bring healing and a new life to those behind bars.
The Prayer: Lord, I pray for the men and women who are in prison today. It must be very lonely and hard. I ask that You would meet them in their cells and show them Your love. Help them to be sorry for what they did and to start a new life with You. Please also be with their children and families who are suffering because they are away. Amen.
33. For Wisdom in Words
Bible Verse: Psalm 141:3 — “Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.”
How to pray: We can hurt people very badly with our words. Or we can help them. Think about how you talked to people today. Were you grumpy? Did you gossip? Ask God to be like a “security guard” for your mouth so that only good things come out.
The Prayer: Heavenly Father, I am sorry for the mean things I have said lately. Sometimes my tongue moves faster than my brain! Please help me to think before I speak. I want my words to be kind and to encourage people, not tear them down. Put a guard over my mouth today so that I don’t say anything that would make You sad or hurt someone else. Amen.
34. For Contentment
Bible Verse: 1 Timothy 6:6 — “But godliness with contentment is great gain.”
How to pray: We always want more—more clothes, more money, a better car. But being happy with what we have is a big secret to peace. Ask God to help you stop comparing your life to other people’s lives on the internet. Thank Him for exactly where you are right now.
The Prayer: Lord, I am always looking at what other people have and feeling jealous. Please help me to stop! I want to be content with what You have given me. I know that I have more than I deserve anyway. Help me to find my happiness in You and not in the things I own. Thank You for providing for all my needs every single day. Amen.
35. For Better Friendships
Bible Verse: Proverbs 17:17 — “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.”
How to pray: Good friends are a gift from God. Pray for your friends today. Ask God to help you be a better friend to them. If you are lonely and don’t have many friends, ask God to bring someone into your life who will encourage you and help you grow closer to Him.
The Prayer: Dear God, thank You for my friends. They make my life so much better. Please help me to be a loyal and kind friend to them. If any of them are going through a hard time, show me how I can help. And if it’s Your will, please bring more godly people into my life so we can follow You together. Amen.
36. For a Humble Spirit
Bible Verse: James 4:10 — “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”
How to pray: Pride is when we think we are better than everyone else. It’s a sneaky sin. Ask God to show you if you are being proud. Remember that everything good you have is a gift from Him. Ask for a heart that is happy to serve and doesn’t need to be the center of attention.
The Prayer: Lord, please take away my pride. I often want people to notice me and tell me how great I am. But I know that without You, I am nothing. Help me to be humble and to see others as more important than myself. I want to follow the example of Jesus, who was humble and kind to everyone. Lift me up in Your own time. Amen.
37. For Focus on Jesus
Bible Verse: Hebrews 12:2 — “Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”
How to pray: During Lent, it’s easy to get distracted by the “rules” or the fasting. But the whole point is Jesus! Ask God to help you keep your “eyes” on Him all day long. When you are working or walking, just keep a little part of your mind thinking about Him.
The Prayer: Father, I get so distracted by all the things I have to do. I forget that the most important thing is my relationship with You. Please help me to fix my eyes on Jesus today. Let His love be the thing that guides my actions. I don’t want to just “do” Lent; I want to know Jesus more than I did before. Amen.
38. For Forgiving Yourself
Bible Verse: 1 John 1:9 — “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
How to pray: Sometimes God forgives us, but we don’t forgive ourselves. We keep thinking about our past mistakes. But if God says you are clean, then you are clean! Tell yourself that God’s grace is bigger than your mistakes. Ask for the peace to move on and stop looking back.
The Prayer: Lord, I am still holding onto things I did a long time ago. I feel so ashamed and I keep punishing myself. But Your Word says that if I confess, You forgive me. Please help me to accept Your forgiveness and to forgive myself too. I want to walk in the freedom that You died to give me. Thank You for Your amazing grace. Amen.
39. For Hope in the Future
Bible Verse: Romans 15:13 — “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
How to pray: If the news makes you feel like the world is ending, you need to pray for hope. God is still on His throne! Ask Him to fill your heart with a hope that doesn’t go away when things look bad. This hope is like an anchor for your soul.
The Prayer: Dear God, the world feels very dark sometimes and I get scared about the future. But You are the God of Hope. Please fill me with Your joy and peace. Help me to trust that You are in control of everything. I want my life to overflow with hope so that other people can see it and want to know You too. Amen.
40. For a Soft Heart
Bible Verse: Ezekiel 36:26 — “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”
How to pray: Life can make us “crusty” and mean. We get cynical and we stop caring about people. Ask God to take away your “heart of stone.” Ask for a “heart of flesh” that feels things again—that feels love for God and compassion for people who are hurting.
The Prayer: Lord, I feel like my heart has become hard and cold lately. I don’t feel much when I read the Bible or when I see someone in need. Please take away this heart of stone. Give me a soft heart that is easy for You to lead. I want to care about the things You care about and to love people with a real, soft love. Amen.
41. For the Waiting Season
Bible Verse: Psalm 27:14 — “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
How to pray: Lent is a season of waiting for Easter. But maybe you are waiting for something else too. A baby, a healing, an answer. Ask God to make you strong while you wait. Waiting is not wasted time if you are waiting with God. It is time for you to grow.
The Prayer: Father, waiting is so hard for me. I want the answer now! But I know that You are working even when I can’t see it. Please give me the strength to wait for You with a good attitude. How to pray: As Lent comes to an end, our prayers for lent should turn toward the joy of Easter. Think about how amazing it is that Jesus is alive! Thank God for the “new birth” He gave you. Get your heart ready to celebrate the biggest victory in history.
The Prayer: Lord God, I am so excited for Easter! Thank You for the living hope I have because Jesus rose from the grave. This whole Lent season has been leading up to this. Thank You for Your great mercy and for the new life You gave me. I want to live every day in the light of the resurrection. You are the King and You are alive! Amen.
FAQ about Lent and Prayer
What is the main goal of Lent? The main goal is to get your heart ready for Easter. It’s like cleaning your house before a very important guest comes over. We use prayer and fasting to focus more on God and less on our own wants.
Do I have to pray all 42 prayers every day? Oh no! That would take a long time. You can just pick one or two that you like. Or you can do one each day. The important thing is that you are talking to God, not how many prayers you do.
What if I miss a day of prayer during Lent? Don’t worry about it! God isn’t keeping a “late list.” Just start again the next day. Lent is about grace, not about being perfect. If you forget, just say “Sorry, Lord” and keep going.
Can I write my own prayers for lent? Yes, of course! These are just to help you get started. God loves to hear your own words, even if they are simple or messy. Just tell Him what is on your mind.
